Well after a lay-off training and the blog (death of my father, youngest daughters illness and ... well ... just some apathy I guess) the last 5 weeks have been hell for leather.
In the first 3 weeks at the gym I lost 2 inches off my waist, reduced both my BMI and body fat % to a point that if I do the same again before Cuba I'll be classified as healthy. And muscle growth? Don't even get me started : )
Of course the real test has been back on the bike and 18, 24, 30 and 44-mile days have been the steadily increasing norm with a 100-mile 3-day weekend again not so long ago but tomorrow is the real test, the 'pilot', the 'live proving' when I embark on a 5-day 220-mile bike ride in the UK.
Okay so maybe the weather will mean it has to be a hill climb setting on the posh bikes at the health club (uww get me, 'health club' not a common and garden gym now) but whilst my legs and lungs are all ready for it, it's the saddle that will prove this biggest issue I'm sure.
A bloke I know (young Ed Greig for those of you from CFS reading this) sent me a text after his 7-seat bike expereince from John O'Groats to Lands End which said: -
"Use plenty of chamois cream, it was a lifesaver for us. The eurostyle stuff was like a pants party every time"
He makes me smile he does.
Okay, I'll keep me and you updated on my progress. Or not, as the case may be.
